Summary: Severe weather on the US East Coast led to the cancellation of 18 flights between Santo Domingo and New York in a single day.

## Article

Bad weather on the US East Coast keeps hitting Dominican air connectivity hard. According to [Actualidad Diaria RD](https://actualidaddiariard.com/cancelan-18-vuelos-entre-sd-y-nueva-york-por-mal-tiempo-eu/), **18 flights** between Santo Domingo and New York were canceled in a single day.

The worst-hit airport was **Las Américas International Airport** (SDQ). Airlines operating the route, Delta, JetBlue, American Airlines and United, had to suspend operations for safety. Runway closures at JFK and Newark due to winter storms caused this domino effect.

- Flights canceled: **18 in total**
- Affected route: **Santo Domingo - New York**
- Cause: **Extreme bad weather in the US**
- Consequence: Stranded passengers and massive rescheduling.

My take: this reminds us that Dominican connectivity is still vulnerable to external weather factors. But look, the quick response from airlines and MITUR shows the country has the capacity to react. What matters is that industry professionals keep communication channels with passengers and airlines fluid. This is not a crisis, it's a chance to improve contingency protocols.
