Dominican Heritage Day fills Miami with Dominican pride
The Dominican Heritage Day turned loanDepot park into a corner of the Dominican Republic again. Arajet, the Ministry of Tourism and the Miami Marlins celebrated it with a day built around the country's culture, music and traditions, aimed at the Dominican community in South Florida. Suelo Caribe covered it, and what you see here is a tourism marketing play with real mileage.
An airline sharing the stage with the Tourism Ministry should not be the exception. Country branding is not built only at trade shows: it is built where the diaspora lives. Miami is the gateway for thousands of Dominicans who go back home every year, and every flag moving in an MLB stadium is a reminder that the DR sells destination, history and hospitality.
My take: this kind of action shortens the distance between the plane and the hotel. Arajet brings travelers in, the Tourism Ministry positions the destination and the Marlins provide the stage so the trip starts before the ticket is bought. That is exactly where tourism promotion should be heading.
