## Article

Puntacana Resort has officially launched the **Corales Puntacana Championship 2026**, the biggest edition in the PGA TOUR event's history in the Dominican Republic. According to [Dominican Today](https://dominicantoday.com/puntacana-resort-officially-opens-2026-corales-puntacana-championship-featuring-144-players/), the tournament will feature **144 players** and a record purse of **US$4 million**, the largest in its six-year history.

This is not just elite golf. It is a strong statement from **Puntacana Resort** as an investment and luxury destination, and a direct boost to tourism in the eastern region. More international participants mean more hotel nights, more restaurant activity, and more media exposure for the country brand.

My take: these events attract high-spending travelers looking for premium experiences. And let's be honest, the **Corales Puntacana Championship** is no longer a secret on the circuit, it is now a must-stop in the PGA TOUR calendar, putting **Punta Cana** firmly on the global golf map. Hoteliers and tour operators should start packaging offers around this date.

- Record purse: **US$4 million** (doubling previous editions).
- **144 players**, the largest international field.
- Solidifies its place as the Caribbean's most important golf event.

This is positive news, and not a minor one: while other Caribbean destinations struggle to attract investment, here the bet is strong on luxury sports tourism. If that's not an opportunity for industry professionals, I don't know what is.
