Dominican airlines welcome Abinader's aviation fuel adjustment
The Dominican Association of Airlines (ADLA) welcomed President Luis Abinader's decision to apply the regulated temperature adjustment to aviation fuel, known as avtur. The group described it as an important step toward improving the competitiveness of carriers operating in the country, as Dominican Today reported.
Avtur is one of the heaviest line items in any airline's cost structure. When that price moves in the operator's favor, the effect shows up fast: more margin to keep routes alive, more room to add frequencies and less pressure to cut seats in low season. For a country that lives on tourism, that means steadier arrivals through Punta Cana, Las Americas and Cibao International.
The read from the industry is clear. A technical adjustment like this one does not solve every challenge facing Dominican commercial aviation, but it does send a signal that the government is listening to operators. And in a Caribbean where every dollar of cost counts, that signal is what keeps connectivity flowing as the country's main source of foreign currency.
