Summary: The state-owned company confirms that the 150 million tons announced are not yet exploitable reserves. Pedernales is still waiting for its big project.

## Article

State-owned **Emidom** still does not know how or at what price it will extract rare earths from **Pedernales**. Its vice president, **Miguel Díaz**, told Acento that the **150 million tons** announced by the government must first go through resource studies, metallurgical processing and a feasibility analysis. Only after that can anyone talk about exploitable reserves, as [Dominican Today](https://dominicantoday.com/emidom-is-still-evaluating-technology-and-costs-for-exploiting-rare-earths-in-pedernales/) reports.

In plain terms: there is rock, but there is no mine yet. The gap between an announcement and a deposit that actually generates revenue is huge, and in Pedernales it shows more than anywhere else. The province has spent years waiting for its own economic engine, with an **emerging tourism** scene in **Cabo Rojo** and a community asking for formal jobs.

The reading is clear: every month without a defined technology and cost structure is a month the province loses to plan its future. Emidom has the chance to do this right from the start, with verifiable data and a public timeline. The country does not need another rare earths headline. It needs to know when the first shovel hits the ground.
