Summary: British airline Jet2 has unexpectedly cancelled its flights to La Palma and is offering alternatives or refunds to affected passengers.

## Article

Jet2 has unexpectedly cancelled its flights to La Palma and is offering affected passengers either alternative travel options or a full refund, according to [Hosteltur](https://www.hosteltur.com/179160_jet2-cancela-por-sorpresa-los-vuelos-a-la-palma-y-ofrece-alternativas-o-reembolso-a-los-pasajeros.html). The British airline has not detailed the reasons behind the decision, which came without warning and affects a key route for the Canary Island's connectivity.

The news carries a useful lesson for the Dominican tourism sector. Air connectivity is the first link in the chain and any airline move is felt at the destination. In the case of the Dominican Republic, reliance on international routes is high and diversifying source markets becomes the best tool to safeguard arrivals. Punta Cana, Bávaro or Samaná are not immune to this kind of decision, but the strength of the Caribbean hub and the commitment to new markets provide room to manoeuvre.

The episode reinforces an idea the Dominican sector handles well: connectivity is built on solid agreements and an attractive offer for airlines. Authorities and private airports have the opportunity to keep expanding routes and consolidating the country's position as a leading Caribbean destination.
