The Dominican Republic receives millions of tourists a year and the sector contributes a hefty slice of GDP, yet that wealth concentrates geographically in a handful of destinations. The question left hanging is how to move that dynamism into provinces with budding tourism products, no mass hotel infrastructure and no direct air connectivity. That is where community tourism, food routes and heritage come in.

The read is clear: growing the sector is not just about adding beds in Bávaro. It means diversifying the offer, bringing small operators in and turning every visit into income that also reaches the corner shop, the guide and the artisan of the area. That does not weaken all inclusive, it complements it. The challenge is coordination between MITUR, city halls and the private sector so the shift goes beyond good intentions.
