Health Ministry and dentists push dental tourism in DR
Medical and dental tourism is starting to stop being a loose promise in the Dominican Republic. According to Arecoa, the Ministry of Public Health, the dentists' association and the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS) are coordinating actions to attract investment, generate specialized jobs and adopt technology in the sector.
The logic is simple. The country already competes in cosmetic, bariatric and dental surgery with prices far below the United States and Europe, and with a hotel base few Caribbean destinations can match. Linking that to a clear regulatory framework multiplies the appeal for clinics and for the resorts themselves, which can package recovery with rooms, transfers and support.
The challenge is no small one, but it is manageable: standardizing protocols, certifying facilities and communicating quality to the foreign patient. That is where the alliance between Public Health and ADTS carries weight, because it orders the narrative and gives confidence to those deciding to travel with a scalpel in their suitcase. The read is clear: every patient who undergoes surgery or an implant in Santo Domingo or Punta Cana leaves foreign currency, skilled jobs and reputation for the entire destination.
