Search underway for 16-year-old missing at Costambar beach
The Civil Defense is keeping up a land, sea and air search operation to find a 16-year-old reported missing at Costambar beach, in Puerto Plata. According to witnesses cited by local media, the teenager was last seen in the swimming area.
Costambar is one of the busiest beaches on the Atlantic coast, right next to the tourist complex of the same name and a few minutes from downtown Puerto Plata. The area blends locals, domestic visitors and guests from nearby hotels, with steady traffic all year round.
Rescue teams remain on site and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward. For the industry, every incident at a beach used by tourists is a reminder that lifeguard coverage and clear signage at swimming spots pay off twice: in safety and in the reputation of the destination.
