Mitur and representatives of the community, lodging sector and local businesses in BayahibeBayahíbeA former fishing village in the south-east, gateway to Saona and Catalina islands and to diving in Cotubanamá National Park. have created a permanent working group. The goal, as Suelo Caribe reports, is to coordinate strategic actions for the comprehensive strengthening of the destination.
They report it as news, and to me it looks like a masterstroke in tourism policy. Bayahibe is not just a destination, it is a model of coexistence between cruise tourism, all-inclusive hotels and artisanal fishing. Mitur bringing everyone to the same table and setting a fixed meeting schedule is the way to ensure that growth does not eat away at what makes the place special: its authenticity.
Because, make no mistake, this is not about adding more deck chairs on the beach, but about getting the house in order. With this working group, priorities can be set: training local youth, tourist signage, street cleaning, or the relationship with cruise lines. What is decided here, if implemented, positions Bayahibe as a benchmark for local tourism governance.
And I, for one, believe that development without planning is just noise, so I applaud the initiative. Now it is time to deliver and make sure the minutes have an expiration date.
