The Ministry of Tourism just announced the creation of a permanent working group to coordinate BayahibeBayahíbeA former fishing village in the south-east, gateway to Saona and Catalina islands and to diving in Cotubanamá National Park.’s development, one of the most promising sun-and-beach destinations on the southeastern coast. According to Dominican Today, the task force brings together local community leaders, hotel operators and merchants to design joint strategies for orderly growth.
I think this is a smart move. Bayahibe has been expanding fast, and without a technical committee, clashes between hotel expansion and environmental protection were bound to happen. This is no empty gesture: the group will meet regularly and have real authority to align interests.
What does it mean for the industry? Bayahibe is now a priority destination for public and private investment. Hoteliers and tour operators get a direct line to the ministry to solve bottlenecks. And travelers win because a well-planned destination keeps both the beach and the tranquility that makes Bayahibe special.
