Punta Rucia has its photo spot now. Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated this Thursday a new structure that joins the landscape of one of the most charismatic coasts in Puerto PlataPuerto PlataA north-coast city and province, birthplace of Dominican tourism, home to the cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres, Victorian architecture and the Amber Cove cruise port., right at the departure point to Cayo Arena. It's not just a viewpoint: it's an identity element designed to make travelers stop, take the picture and share it on social media. And in the age of digital marketing, that's pure gold.
The area needed something like this. Punta Rucia is stunning, but it lacked a physical icon to set it apart. This photo spot, built under the Ministry of Tourism program, strengthens the offer of a destination that is enjoying a sweet moment, with the connection to Cayo Arena as its main hook. Now the challenge is to make it work as a meeting point for tours, guides and local entrepreneurs.
My take: kudos to Collado and his team for looking beyond the big resorts. Tourism is also built on details like this one, and Puerto Plata gains a new claim that invites visitors to stay a little longer. That means more spending in the area, more jobs for local businesses and, ultimately, more revenue for the state. Hopefully this is the first of many in other corners of the north coast.
