Summary: The airline is adding international flights from Austin-Bergstrom to Punta Cana, Nassau and Guanacaste, a sign that the Texas market is looking at the Caribbean with fresh interest.

## Article

Southwest Airlines is expanding its international operation from **Austin-Bergstrom International Airport** with three new routes to the Caribbean and Central America. **Punta Cana** is on the confirmed list, alongside Nassau in the Bahamas and Guanacaste in Costa Rica, as reported by [Arecoa](https://www.arecoa.com/aerolineas/2026/10/05/southwest-airlines-expande-su-oferta-en-austin-con-nuevos-vuelos-a-rd-y-otros-destinos-y/).

The move matters directly for the Dominican Republic. Austin has become one of the fastest-growing US feeder markets, and a nonstop from Texas opens the door to a traveler who until now was more likely to look at Cancún or the Mexican Caribbean. Southwest already flies to Punta Cana from other US cities, so this route strengthens its bet on the Dominican destination rather than improvising it.

Frequency and exact launch date are still pending, but the direction is clear: **more seats from a high-income secondary hub**. For hoteliers in Bávaro and Cap Cana, tour operators and MITUR itself, this is raw material for bundled packages outside the traditional New York, Boston or Toronto markets. Worth tracking the official schedule and, above all, working the Texas market at trade shows and campaigns before competitors get there first.
