Government launches territorial planning for Verón-Punta Cana
Finally. The government has unveiled the Municipal Territorial Planning Plan (PMOT) for Verón-Punta Cana, something those of us who work here had been demanding for years. According to Dominican Today, it is a long-term strategy to guide urban growth, protect natural resources, and focus on sustainable development in the country's tourism heart.
Let's be clear: this is no bureaucratic whim. Punta Cana grew wildly, without a plan, and that left us with infrastructure issues, pressure on aquifers, and an urban layout that sometimes looks like a patchwork. The PMOT steps in to bring order: delimit hotel zones, protect mangroves and wetlands, and ensure new projects meet environmental standards.
My take is positive. This doesn't stop investment, it orders it. If executed well, hoteliers gain legal certainty and the destination gains reputation. In an increasingly competitive Caribbean, that's gold. Now let's push so it doesn't stay a pretty document.
