Just read on [Suelo Caribe](https://suelocaribe.com/aeronavegacion/tocumen-supera-los-115-millones-de-pasajeros-en-el-primer-semestre-de-2026/) that Tocumen International Airport handled **11,531,295 passengers** between January and June 2026. **That's 15% more** than the same period last year. Keep in mind they now count children under two, which nudges the numbers a bit, but it's still an impressive milestone.

While Panama solidifies its hub status, the Dominican Republic remains focused on sun-and-sand tourism with direct flights. I see a clear opportunity here: why not turn Punta Cana or Santo Domingo into a real regional connection center? With airport incentives and a solid airline recruitment strategy, we could grab some of that traffic from South America. Tocumen's growth shows the Central American market is thriving. For us, it's the push we need to stop being just a destination and start being a bridge too.
