Summary: The OMPT chose the Argentinian town of Maimará to celebrate World Tourism Journalism Day, an event that highlights the role of communicators in destinations like the Dominican Republic.

## Article

On September 5, the **World Tourism Journalism Organization (OMPT)** held its World Tourism Journalism Day in the picturesque town of Maimará, Argentina, a spot in the Quebrada de Humahuaca that served as the backdrop for journalists from several countries. The choice is not random: Maimará is a perfect example of how a small destination can gain visibility through the storytelling of those who cover it.

This event should resonate in the Dominican Republic, where tourism drives the economy and specialized journalists play a role that is sometimes underestimated. Telling what happens in Punta Cana, Samaná, or Puerto Plata well is not just reporting, it also **builds traveler confidence** and provides context for investors. I see an opportunity here for Dominican media to keep strengthening their own agenda, with data and insight, just like the coverage of [this celebration on Dominican Today](https://dominicantoday.com/travel-journalists-celebrate-world-tourism-journalism-day-in-maimara-argentina/).

Behind every arrival figure, there is a story to be told. What if the next international tourism journalism gathering put the spotlight on the Caribbean? It would be a great way to give back to the industry part of what it gives us.
