Collado starts RD$137M tourism works in Baní
Tourism Minister David Collado has broken ground on tourism works in Baní with a RD$137 million investment. The project is part of his program to recover public spaces and waterfronts, as reported by Arecoa.
This is not a small project: the money will go into upgrading Baní's coastline, an area with great beaches that has traditionally lived in the shadow of Punta Cana and Bávaro. The ministry wants Baní's waterfront to gain quality space for visitors and residents alike.
My take: seeing Collado look beyond the consolidated destinations is good news. Recovering waterfronts in provinces like Peravia opens the door to a more decentralized tourism model. I hope these works come with services and promotion so Baní becomes more than just a nice promenade.
