Summary: United Airlines postpones the Houston-Caracas direct route to January 12, 2027. A decision that reshapes Caribbean connectivity and gives the Dominican Republic a chance to step up.

## Article

United Airlines has moved the date again. The carrier is postponing the resumption of its direct flights between Houston and Caracas to **January 12, 2027**, according to [Arecoa](https://www.arecoa.com/videos/2026/08/25/united-posterga-reinicio-de-sus-vuelos-directos-entre-houston-y-caracas-para-enero-del-2027/). This is not the first delay, and the question is obvious: what is happening with air connectivity in Venezuela?

My take as an industry insider is clear: every month United does not operate that route, **Houston loses a direct link to South America**, and travelers heading to Caracas have to find alternatives. That is where the Dominican Republic can step in. Punta Cana and Santo Domingo already receive United flights from Houston, making them a natural hub for anyone needing that corridor.

Instead of seeing this as bad news for the region, I read it as an **opportunity for Dominican tourism**: more connections, more stopovers, more hotel nights. The Houston-Caracas route will keep waiting, but the Caribbean moves forward. [United's announcement](https://www.arecoa.com/videos/2026/08/25/united-posterga-reinicio-de-sus-vuelos-directos-entre-houston-y-caracas-para-enero-del-2027/) confirms that airlines are still adjusting their networks, and whoever has connectivity and competitive fares wins.
