For those of us in Dominican tourism day in and day out, this is more than pavement. Puerto Plata has been waiting years for a fast connection to the Cibao region. Right now, tourists arriving in Santiago or flying into Cibao airport have to wind around the mountain. With the Amber Highway, the drive shortens dramatically. The result? Puerto Plata becomes a far more accessible destination for visitors landing in Santiago or coming from the capital.
My take: this project can rebalance the tourism map. With a highway that gets you to the coast in 40 minutes, the Santiago-Puerto Plata combo becomes a magnet for travelers seeking varied experiences. Let's hope execution stays on track, starting is one thing, finishing another. But the intention is right.
