This is not just another fair: here they sell the Dominican Republic that doesn't appear in the sun-and-beach brochure, the one of mountains, rivers and culture.
The event, held on the north coast, aims precisely at promoting and commercializing adventure, nature and culture experiences. And here's the thing: having 300 buyers sitting across from 60 sellers is a clear sign that the product is maturing. Tour operators don't travel to Puerto Plata just for appearances, they go because there's business.
My take: events like this show that Dominican tourism no longer competes only for the same sun. Diversification has real economic impact for the country, because every adventure excursion sold is income that stays in local communities and in the state's coffers. The consolidation of this second edition is good news, and more exhibitors next year would be the best confirmation.
