COE and Airports tighten emergency response plans

Dominican tourism stands to gain a lot from quick reaction times when something goes wrong. That is why I welcome the news that the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Airport Department have agreed to strengthen coordination and response protocols for emergencies and disasters in the country, as reported by Dominican Today.
COE Director Erdwin Olivares met with airport officials to align their approach. This is not just paperwork. We are talking about making sure a hurricane, a health alert or a major incident does not catch anyone off guard with half-written procedures. For a destination that depends on travelers arriving by air, having airports and the emergency center rowing in the same direction is as strategic as expanding a terminal.
My take: agreements like this, low-key and without fanfare, are real infrastructure for the industry. They do not show up in arrival statistics, but when it is time to activate the plan, the destination's reputation is on the line. In the Caribbean, competition does not forgive. Good crisis management is the best marketing campaign the Dominican Republic can have.
I hope this push comes with joint drills, because that is where real flaws show up. A handshake is nice. An exercise with real passengers and the control tower in action is much better.
