The Dominican Republic has its stand up and running at IFTM Top Resa, the tourism trade fair taking place in Paris these days and a key gauge for how the European market is breathing. The Dominican delegation arrives with the goal of strengthening its position in a market that, while not the highest in volume, is the one that pays best and stays longest at resorts in Punta Cana, Samaná or Puerto Plata. According to Arecoa, the participation at the fair aims to consolidate the country's presence before French and European tour operators.

Top Resa is a pure business fair. This is not about handing out brochures, it is about closing contracts for the winter season and fighting for share against destinations like Mexico or Jamaica, which have been biting into the Caribbean pie for years. The French market is especially juicy for the Dominican Republic because it combines long stays, high spending and seasonality that fits the Dominican high season. The reading is clear: every euro that comes in through Paris translates into jobs in Bavaro, La Romana and the north coast.

What is worth watching now is whether the presence at the fair translates into new direct routes or more frequencies from Charles de Gaulle and Orly. That is the real lever. A nice stand opens doors, but what moves the needle is available seats and commercial agreements with the big tour operators. The Dominican Republic has plenty of product to compete on that ground, and Top Resa is the perfect showcase to prove it.
