The Dominican tourism machine isn't slowing down. Asonahores has just confirmed the dates for its Expo Comercial 2026, landing on September 2-4 at BlueMall Puntacana. And here's the key figure: the 300-plus booths are already sold out, with an additional 450 requests on the waiting list. This isn't just another event, it's the thermometer of what's moving in the Dominican industry.
At the launch event, the association's president Juan Bancalari laid out the thesis: tourism isn't just beaches and visitor arrivals. Behind every booking lies a chain of producers, entrepreneurs, and companies that make the engine run. According to the Ministry of Tourism, executive vice president Aguie Lendor put numbers on it: the industry buys about US$3 billion annually in domestic goods and services. That's not spending, it's a direct injection into the real economy.
Asonahores isn't resting. For 2026, they've announced a new booth distribution scheme, an interactive portal for exhibitors to choose their spot, and QR code accreditation. Small details that simplify life for the 300-plus exhibitors and visitors expected. The fair will include business roundtables, conferences on sustainability and innovation, and industry trend meetings. Grupo Puntacana returns as host, and Vice Minister Roberto Henríquez reiterated government backing, as stated in the Mitur source.
I see two stories here. First: the local supply chain is no longer a slogan from speeches. When a hotel buys everything from tech to food from local vendors, it generates formal employment in communities across the country. Second: 450 companies waiting for a booth means this event has become indispensable. This is not just another trade show, it's the marketplace where supply and demand of Dominican tourism meet.
Of course, managing growth has its challenges. Expanding the physical space or rotating exhibitors will be an inevitable conversation, but that's a welcome problem in a sector that keeps growing. The fair is nearing four decades, and what started as an idea by a group of hoteliers has become the platform connecting national production with the tourism machine. Edition 38 looks strong. Anyone with something to offer the industry should mark September on the calendar.
