Dominican health tourism council bill advances in Senate

This week the Dominican Senate took the first step to institutionalize health tourism. It approved on first reading the bill to create the National Council for the Development of Health Tourism (Condetusa), an advisory body to coordinate and promote this segment, as reported by Dominican Today.

My take: this is more than bureaucracy. The Dominican Republic has a huge chance to attract travelers seeking cosmetic surgery, dental work or medical checkups combined with beach time. Countries like Costa Rica are ahead. This council can be the institutional push we need to standardize quality, attract investment and brand ourselves as a serious health destination.

Hoteliers, pay attention. Medical tourism brings higher margins than traditional sun and sand. If we align clinics, insurance and accommodation, we can open a revenue stream that diversifies the low season. Yes, regulation will be tricky. But the direction is right.
