Puerto Plata nears 3 million visitors and flexes its muscle
Puerto Plata is having a sweet moment and it is not a brochure perception. Presidency Minister José Ignacio Paliza highlighted the transformation process the northern destination is going through after nearing 3 million visitors, as reported by Arecoa.
The figure is not decoration. Puerto Plata has dragged years of silent reconversion, with new hotel investment, recovered airport infrastructure and a cruise flow that has brought life back to the colonial zone and the malecón. The push shows in the province: more rooms, more excursions, more local spending and, above all, more tax revenue that stays in the territory.
For the sector, the reading is clear: the Dominican north is no longer Punta Cana's discreet sibling. The opportunity lies in consolidating air routes, expanding experiences beyond all-inclusive and capturing the traveler seeking culture, nature and gastronomy. Puerto Plata has all three ingredients and now it also has the numbers.
