Cayo Levantado launches its first artist residency
Cayo Levantado Resort has kicked off the first edition of Atelier Yubarta, an artistic and artisan residency programme in Samaná. The initiative comes from a collaboration between Piñero and the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism, as Dominican Today reports.
The format is a residency: selected artists and artisans work for a season inside the resort itself, with the bay of Samaná as their studio. It fits a trend several Dominican resorts already follow, turning low-season empty space into a workshop, an exhibition and content for guests.
For Samaná, the move matters. The province keeps fighting to spread demand beyond peak months and to attract visitors who are not just passing through on their way to the eastern beaches. A resort on the island backing this kind of programme with Piñero and the MITUR points to a broader strategy: using culture as a selling point and as a reason to extend the stay.
