Mitur puts RD$1.2 billion into Jarabacoa and Constanza
The Ministry of Tourism made its move in La Vega province. David Collado announced an investment of more than RD$1.2 billion for ecotourism, roads and community works in Jarabacoa and Constanza, of which RD$963 million has already been executed. The showcase was the refurbished Anacaona park in Constanza, with a price tag of RD$29,295,758 across 5,039 square metres. The breakdown is telling: 1,140 metres of sidewalks, 1,776 of tiled paving, 80 of wood decking, 650 of local stone in planters and 260 of steps, plus a reinforced gazebo, wheelchair ramps, lighting and signage.
Collado used the ribbon cutting to commit to two more streets, Matías Ramón Mella avenue and the road up to the Divino Niño Monument and Sanctuary. Both ready for tender in December 2026. That pushes the local investment to RD$250 million extra, according to the minister himself as reported by Arecoa.
For hoteliers the reading is straightforward: every peso in sidewalks, gazebos and access roads means a destination that can absorb more long weekends and a higher average spend. Jarabacoa has been building that story here, from the 48-hour ribs, coffee and river guide to the Caribe Tours bus incident in July. Constanza now joins the same conversation with visible urban works, not just mountain scenery.
What to watch is not the ceremony but the delivery. Whether both committed streets actually go to tender in December is the real test of whether the pace holds. For La Vega hoteliers, the useful question is how much of that spending reaches tourism signage, routes and connectivity, because Anacaona park only moves visitors if the road to it invites them back.
