Central American Games bring 6,000 athletes to AILA
Las Américas International Airport (AILA) is gearing up for a historic July. According to Arecoa, starting July 17 more than 6,000 athletes will begin arriving for the Central American and Caribbean Games, an event that drives a surge in visitor flow to the Dominican Republic.
This is not just about competitors. Behind every team come coaches, delegates and, above all, a tourism promotion window that no resort or marketing campaign can buy. The region's eyes will be on the country for weeks. And AILA will be the first filter of that experience.
My take: sports tourism is shifting from a promise to a real driver. Hotels, airlines and MITUR itself have a chance to turn this massive arrival into a springboard, positioning the Dominican Republic as a recurring host for major events. Hopefully logistics are up to par, because if AILA manages this peak well, the message we send across the Caribbean is that of a prepared, serious destination capable of hosting high-level competitions.
