E-passport: no more pre-registration for Autogate
Great news for frequent flyers with the new e-passport. The Dominican Migration Authority has scrapped the previous registration requirement for using the automated control kiosks (Autogate) at local airports. As reported by Arecoa, Dominican passport holders can now go straight through the biometric system. No extra forms. No lines.
This is a win. The Autogate was designed to speed up arrivals, but the online pre-registration step added friction. Now, the chip does the heavy lifting. In my view, this encourages more people to renew their passports and helps airports like Punta Cana, Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata avoid bottlenecks during peak seasons.
Smoother entry sets a good tone for visitors and for Dominicans returning home. The less friction at migration, the better the country's first impression. If you are still holding the old passport, renewing just became more attractive.
