Wingo lands in Puerto Plata: Bogotá gets direct flights in November
Wingo has confirmed that from November 6 it will connect Bogotá with Puerto Plata, and its vice president, Jorge Jiménez, doesn't mince words: the city has everything to become a favorite among Colombians, according to Arecoa.
The bet is not minor. Puerto Plata has spent years trying to take off beyond the North American and European markets, and now a strong origin market like Colombia appears, with a middle class that travels more and more. I see a double win here: for the airline, which expands its Caribbean network, and for the destination, which diversifies its arrivals.
There are still weeks left until the first flight, but the mere announcement already has northern coast hoteliers crunching numbers. If Wingo delivers and the route fills up, I wouldn't be surprised to see more frequencies or other Colombian airlines looking at the destination. The demonstration effect works like that in the Caribbean.
