MITUR brings 'Tourism Close to You' to Puerto Plata
David Collado keeps making moves. The Tourism Minister launched the national program 'Tourism Close to You' in Puerto Plata, an initiative designed to bring communities, businesses, authorities, and other tourism players to the same table so that tourism development stops being a promise and becomes a joint effort.
Choosing Puerto Plata is no coincidence: the province has history, infrastructure, and needs MITUR to involve all local agents in decision-making. This is exactly what the destination asks for, as it often watches megaprojects go by without feeling part of them.
My take: if this program is executed seriously, it can close the gap between resort tourism and the people who live off it. Less bureaucracy and more direct conversation. Hopefully, it reaches all poles without staying as a photo-op launch.
