Tropicalia wins global award before opening in Miches

Tropicalia hasn't opened its doors yet in Miches and already has an international award. The project was recognized as "One to Watch" at the ICRT Responsible Tourism Awards 2026, an honor that celebrates initiatives with the most potential to lead the way in responsible tourism, according to Infotur Dominicano.
The recognition comes before the resort opens, and that says a lot. It's not an award for what's been built, it's an award for intention. Mind you, the Caribbean still has a lot to prove on that front. But the international jury has valued that the model proposed in Miches integrates sustainability from design, not as an afterthought.
For Dominican tourism, a project of this caliber getting global attention before it even debuts is a powerful signal. It puts Miches on the map, but it also sets a challenge: now they have to prove that vision on the ground. The good news is the recognition is already there, and that opens doors and attracts investment. Everything points to the Miches coastline having plenty to say in the coming years.
In my opinion, this kind of award puts the Dominican Republic on the radar of travelers looking for more than sun and beach. And that, in the long run, shows up in tourist arrivals and the local economy. We'll see what happens when Tropicalia opens, but you can't ask for a better start.
