Miches now has 3,000 rooms and is building 3,000 more
Miches already operates around 3,000 hotel rooms and has another 3,000 under construction, according to figures from MITUR. The destination has moved from promise to operating reality: what until a few years ago was a stopover between Punta Cana and Samaná now concentrates large-scale hotel investment.
The impact shows up in direct jobs, local supplier spending and foreign currency that stays in the area. Every new room in Miches is a job in the kitchen, housekeeping, entertainment or maintenance, and also a customer for the local plantain farmer, fisherman and transporter. That is the part that never makes it into the brochures, but it is what sustains the development.
The challenge ahead is infrastructure: roads, water, power and services that keep pace with the volume. That is where the opportunity sits for the industry and the government, with an eye on the airport and on airlift matching the pace of new beds.
