Disney Cruise Line to Dock Nearly 3,000 Cruisers in Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata's Taíno port will receive close to 3,000 cruise passengers this Tuesday aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship. The confirmation came from Mauricio Hamui, CEO of ITM Group, the company operating the terminal, as reported by Arecoa.
That number is not just a headline filler. It means 3,000 people stepping ashore in a single day to buy handicrafts on the Malecón, book tours to the 27 Charcos, ride the cable car, eat in a Sosúa restaurant or pay an entry fee that ends up in provincial coffers. Every call of this size leaves tax revenue and direct jobs in Puerto Plata, and not only inside the terminal.
The read for the trade is straightforward, and it is backed by the data that ITM Group and its partner Disney handle. Puerto Plata has stopped being a secondary stopover in the Caribbean circuit. It has entered the calendar of premium lines, and premium lines spend more per passenger who goes ashore. The opening is there for tour operators, taxi drivers and local shops to capture that spending when the ship docks, rather than letting it stay on board.
