Dominican Republic tops 8.5 million visitors through August

The Dominican Republic has already welcomed more than 8.5 million visitors through August, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The figure arrives in a year in which the country is playing to close above the historic 2023 record, and with the high season still ahead. Punta Cana, Bavaro, Samana, Puerto Plata, La Romana and Santo Domingo keep driving the airport system, and the country's cruise ports add their share to the total.

The read for the industry is direct: when visitors come through that door, foreign currency comes with them, along with jobs and activity for the provinces where the hotels sit. Tourism is today one of the most reliable fiscal engines the Dominican state has, and every point of arrival growth translates into an economic base that supports the country beyond cycles in other sectors.

What comes next is defending the trend. Air connectivity, room renovations and hotel investment outside the main hub make the difference between a good year and a historically big one.
