Tourism creates jobs, but youth training lags behind
Dominican tourism keeps adding jobs at a pace few sectors can match. Hotels, airlines, cruises and tour operators demand more staff every season. The question hanging over the industry is different: are young Dominicans prepared to fill those jobs?
According to Acento, the gap between labour supply and the real qualifications of candidates remains the main bottleneck. The most sought-after profiles, from multilingual front desk to revenue management or technical maintenance, require specific training that the formal education system does not always deliver.
The reading is clear: the jobs exist, but the pipeline needs more and better technical training. MITUR, INFOTEP and the hotel groups themselves have a golden opportunity to close the gap with dual programmes and fast certifications. The challenge is real, but so is the reward: a prepared youth is the best guarantee that Dominican tourism keeps growing with quality employment.
