Mitur puts RD$1,600 million into La Altagracia
The Mitur has now spent more than RD$1,600 million on public works inside La Altagracia, the province that holds most of the country's hotel room supply and a large share of its air arrivals. Arecoa confirms the figure and notes the ministry is not stopping there: more projects are on the way.
Punta Cana and Bávaro are the ones who feel this number most. Every peso the state puts into access roads, signage, beaches, drainage or public spaces in that area means a destination that handles volume better, and that volume is what sustains beds, jobs and the tax bill the province pays back through VAT, airport fees and on-site spending.
- Public investment that supports private capital, not replaces it.
- La Altagracia as the country's foreign-currency engine, not a showcase.
- Finished works as a selling point against other Caribbean destinations.
The read is clear: public money goes back where the business already is, and that is healthy. The useful question for the trade is whether that work lands before the next high season and whether the municipality and the ministry keep it up afterwards. That is where the payoff is won or lost.
