Mitur promotes Jarabacoa as the leading ecotourism destination

The Ministry of Tourism and the JarabacoaJarabacoaA mountain town in the centre of the country, capital of ecotourism and adventure sports, with a cool climate, rivers and waterfalls like Jimenoa and Baiguate. Tourism Cluster just took a concrete step to turn the area from what we call "the best kept secret" into the flagship of Dominican ecotourism. They organized a familiarization trip (fam trip) to show key agents what this green lung of the country has to offer. And trust me, it's about time.
According to Arecoa, the goal is to position Jarabacoa as the main ecotourism destination in the Dominican Republic. I see this as a smart move: we've been talking about diversifying beyond sun and beach for years, and this bet on mountain rivers, pine forests and a climate that coastal Caribbean envy. The challenge now is to connect that with international promotion without losing its soul.
My take: seeing Mitur back the local cluster shows the diversification talk is gaining muscle. Jarabacoa doesn't compete with Punta CanaPunta CanaThe main tourism hub of the Dominican Republic, on the eastern tip, famous for white-sand beaches, all-inclusive resorts and its own international airport., it competes with the Alps or Costa Rica, and this fam trip is the first step for tour operators to get it. Now we need infrastructure and flights, but this is the right path.
