The Dominican Republic officially presented its new international campaign Cabarete Surf and Wind City in Miami Beach, a direct bet on sports tourism. According to Arecoa, these are two initiatives aimed at positioning the country as a destination for wind and wave sports.
I see it clearly: sports tourism is a growing niche and DR has what it takes. Cabarete is already a global reference for windsurfing and kitesurfing, but it needed a campaign to shout it out loud. Combining beach, wind and international events is a smart move.
The launch in Miami Beach is no coincidence: it targets the North American market, which moves millions in sports travel. My take is that MITUR is sharpening its aim. Hopefully we'll soon see tournaments and clinics that attract high-spending tourists.
